The dirty hands of poor children are not just after the coins in our pocket. They bless us too. Through them, God paints colors on our monochromatic charity. Love is not a bending toward the less fortunate below from a privileged position, nor is it is a gesture of sympathy on those who fail to make the upward pull. On the contrary, compassion is building a home with people who suffer. God mixes His mysterious colors through us and inextricably intertwines us to Him. These impoverish children are with us to help us, to mentor us. With their tiny hands, they lighten the heavy load on our shoulders.
